Meet Rebecca Nanono

Rebecca Nanono is a dynamic IT professional and digital rights advocate with a strong focus on advancing internet access and infrastructure for marginalized groups in Uganda. As a leader in the internet governance space, she has spearheaded numerous digital transformation projects aimed at bridging the gender divide, particularly for young women in rural areas. Her work champions equitable access to digital tools and services, ensuring that structurally silenced groups are included in the digital economy.

Rebecca's career is marked by her role in the civic tech space, where she supported efforts to expand urban digital infrastructure with a focus on gender equality in technology. She is actively involved in shaping internet governance policies as part of the Internet forums. 

Rebecca's expertise also extends to cybersecurity and online safety, where she advocates for digital security and justice for African women. Rebecca is passionate about leveraging technology for social good, and her contributions include creating platforms that disseminate critical information on sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and digital literacy for underserved communities.

Rebecca is also a researcher and advocate focused on refugee issues and emigration in Uganda, working to uncover the root causes of displacement and migration. Through her promotion of Global Citizenship Education, she fosters values of peace, security, and shared responsibility, contributing to a more inclusive and resilient global community.

Rebecca continues to push for inclusive IT policies, with her work focusing on empowering women and structurally silenced groups to participate fully in the digital world.
